HVAC/Thermal Engineer


Reporting to the CTO of LiquidStack, this role will create concept, design, and build HVAC solutions for datacenters. This role will work very closely with our engineering team. You will learn about a variety of new technologies which can shape the data center industry for decades to come. We are looking for a driven HVAC/Thermal Engineer who is passionate about his/her profession and wants to be a team member on one of the world’s global leaders in liquid cooling for data centers, edge, and high-performance computing.


  • Conceptual designs of HVAC solution for datacenters, with water cooling as focus
  • Pressure loss simulations of water-cooled systems, optimization for efficiency
  • Designs and creates related documentation, like PI&D, etc.
  • Design responsibilities include control components and integration into facility
  • Works in-house and with vendors and partners on planning, design, and prototype builds
  • Feasibility studies; performs tests and experiments for continuance improvements
  • Works closely with external consultants and internal engineering team on the design and manufacturing for the entire solution / datacenter
  • Other calculations and simulations like heat transfer/resistance and simulations, CFD
  • Vendor identification, material/parts qualification with input to sourcing
  • Bill of Material optimization
  • Acts in a manner consistent with LiquidStack’s core values and according to LiquidStack’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethical Behavior
  • Complies with standards and procedures of LiquidStack’s health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations


  • Diploma/Higher Diploma/BSc in HVAC/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or similar
  • HVAC or Air Conditioning / Refrigeration certificate (as advantage);
  • At least 5 years of experience in designing and calculation of HVAC system, preferably in industrial buildings and / or datacenters
  • Ability to perform calculations of air flow within datacenter;
  • Ability to perform calculations of temperatures and thermal flows within equipment;
  • Proficient in AUTOCAD 2D and 3D, or similar software like SolidWorks
  • Knowledge in pressure drop simulation software strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal analysis software preferred, but not mandatory
  • Self-starter that can be hands-on with tools and work independently and in a team
  • Must have strong planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to prioritize competing tasks and keeping to critical deadlines
  • Attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Multicultural approach, comfortable working with diverse cultures and mind-sets
  • Appreciation to work in a global organization with teammates in different time zones/regions
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written)
  • Very good command of English, fluency in Cantonese is a strong plus
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D software is of advantage
  • Knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint is a must; generally tech savvy
